Pacifier preference??

I plan on EBF once the little one arrives and was wondering before I register what kind of pacifiers other BF moms prefer??

Re: Pacifier preference??

  • we just introduced one at 4 weeks. the lactation educator recommended soothies, but my LO wouldn't take it. She also wouldn't take a mam. we tried nuks and she likes those, and will now use the mam, but she still doesn't like the soothie.

  • DD loves the NUK's as well. I tried literaly every darn Binky out there and that is the only kind that has a shot at staying in!

Please be forwarned- as soothing as they are...when they fall out in the middle of the night and your baby is looking for it - you'll wish you'd never introduced them to it in the first place. As you see I have a love hate relationship with them and if I can help DB 2 will not see a Binky eeeevvvvvver!

  • Ds would only take a soothie for the first week or so (we introduced it around day 4, due to ds thinking my boob was his pacifier and falling asleep while sucking, crying for more, sucking for 30 seconds, falling asleep, crying for more, repeat, repeat, repeat).  I hated it b/c it kept falling out of his mouth and it was loud, so I couldn't sleep with him sucking, even if dh was taking care of him.  He now takes avent ones, which are orthandontic "approved," whatever that means (it sounds like a healthy choice!).

  • My auntie in FL bought me a two-pack of avent clear pacifiers. They come with a clear snap on case also...I love them to pieces. my baby seems to love them also.
  • Thanks for all the advice ladies!

  • Its a matter of trial and error. DS likes the MAM ones with the riges on the nipple. I tried every kind. He did kinda take the nuk when he was little but not a ton.

  • DD and DS both love the NUK brand. As far as babies having nuks fall out in the middle of the night - once they are a few months old and can start putting the nuk back in their mouth themselves, just sprinkle a few extra nuks in their beds and they can learn to replace the nuk on their own. I personally think nuks are just fabulous. 8-)
  • our LC told us soothies. SHe said the ones that are flat on one side shouldn't be used unless you want your nipples to look like that after nursing...Then, of course, she laughed. However, we're sticking with soothies when we start using them (assuming he'll take it).

  • We tried a few before finding DD would take the soothie.

  • Ha! All the money in wasted pacifiers. DD refuses them...all of them. We exclusively breastfeed and apparently we didn't introduce them soon enough...she will absolutely not take one (she doesn't take a bottle either.) We've tried a number of different brands and styles with no luck. I have heard the same thing though that if LO gets too reliant on sucking on a paci to sleep and it falls out they can't figure out how to stay asleep.?
