Does anyone do this? We were on a 3 hour schedule and then moved to a 4 hour schedule. Both seem to work pretty well and neither impacted sleep at night greatly. I've noticed on both there are still times when they just can't make it to the scheduled feed so of course we feed them early, which messes up the schedule. They seem to be taking in about the same amount of ounces regardless.
Re: Feeding on Demand - all day long?
I think most people who do scheduled feedings have flexibility built in, just like you're doing it. If it's really early you might try a pacifier/distraction to see if you can hold them off (because if they're really hungry, they most likely won't be distractable) a bit, but yeah, we do the same thing as you--kind of a cross between schedule and on-demand. (I do also wake them up on the rare occasions when they take an extra-long nap, especially if it's in the late afternoon, since that seems to negatively affect their nighttime sleep.)
