So, remember the supervisory coworker with the decoration abusing kids?

Yesterday, a bunch of us + kids and spouses went to a Mexican restaurant and coworker's toddlers wanted to touch my baby all over the face and mouth and eyes.  WTH?  I didn't say anything but I'm sure it was written all over my face.

"Don't worry, they're very gentle."

Yeah, it's the GERMS I'm worried about.  Who lets their kid do that and then tells a new parent not to be uptight about it?  I don't mind a little patting on the clothed part but are you trying to get my baby sick?  I pretended to be tired and passed the baby off to DH as discreetly as possible to avoid weird drama.

One thing we do with Mason and our friends babies, is only let him touch their feet.  I will ask if we can take their shoes/socks off and he plays with their feet.  That way fingers are not on babies face, I agree, very germie.

That's like someone telling me their dog is very kind and it's lunging and barking at me. Yeah, um...I'll take my eyes version of events over what you're telling me.

Then what I would do is next time you are around kids your not comfortable with, or who's parents are letting them get too close is tell them they can play with or tickle his feet.  Better to have the germies on his toes then in his eyes or mouth.

Next time you should really speak up if you're not comfortable.  When M was little and our friend's kids would want to hold or touch her a lot we'd just say to them, "Oh no honey, she's too little and we don't want her to get sick" right in front of the parents, they were usually good about keeping the kids from grabbing on her too much after that.  If that doesn't work, hold your kiddo out of reach.  Sure, some people might think you're overdoing it, but who cares, it's your baby.

I am really glad that you posted this! All of the advice is great for us soon-to-be mommies too. I really want to bring DS to my school, to show my students, after he is born. I think that it is really important for them to see this being that they have heard about all year long. But I absolutely don't want all of my students to touch him.

The ideas here, from all you girls, will work out great for bringing Max into the classroom. So thanks.
