Failing Hearing Test

has anyone's LO fail the hearing test multiple times?  if so, what was the issue?

Hanlon "failed" three tests and her pedi said that her ear canal was curved and that could be the reason.  we go back on wednesday to follow up.  if she "fails" again we'll be referred to an audiologist.

holding. sh!t. together.

Re: Failing Hearing Test

  • I just posted about this below.  My baby failed multiple times.  We have an appointment with a specialist next month but were told he failed most likely due to residual fluid build up in his ear.

  • Yup - like 5 times. It was amniotic fluid in his ear.

He naturally wanted to lay on his left side....which was the side that he had issues with. I think letting him do that helped drain it!

  • oh thank goodness.  that makes me feel better.  not that it wasn't scary though.

  • hey its ok!  ds failed like three times and the fourth was fine!  he just had a bunch of gunk in his ear! :) she'll be ok!!!  my uncle is a dr. of audiology and he said its normal for babies to have crap in their ears for up to a month!
  • I am so sorry! I will pray that everything goes fine for your sweet little girl :)  She is SO beautiful pretty!
  • my DS failed 2x in the hospital and I was devastated! We went to a f/u appt 5 days later and he passed. Interestingly enough, that morning he had his first ped appt and his dr daw some extra crud in his ear and took some of it out. The ped also told me it was very common for bigger babies and also for pregnancies where the fluid was on the high side, it just takes time to drain out. GL!
  • Our DD failed the hearing test twice. ?It was her right ear that failed. ?We have an appt. with a pediatric audiologist at the end of the month. ?Our pediatrician said not to worry b/c the test is designed to fail more than pass as a precaution. ?She also said that it could be fluid in there and that she has only seen one case in her career as a pediatrician where there was an actual hearing problem. ?Try not to worry about it!!
  • Our first DD failed 3 or 4 times before passing. Our second DD never did pass the test before being dismissed from the hospital and we had to follow up with the audiologist. When we met with him, she passed with out a problem. I actually just had a little boy on Monday and we were completely expecting him to have problems passing as well, but he passed with flying colors. Go figure. Try not to worry, I'm sure things are fine.
