Is it possible to become addicted to chapstick?

I know this sounds silly, but I think I have ruined my lips forever.  They have lost the ability to moisten themselves without using chapstick.  Is this possible or is it all in my head?

  • I'm pretty sure I am.  I put it on several times a day.
  • I think it's a myth.  However if there ever was such a thing, I would be the poster child for it.  I can't stand dry lips.  I think when you use chapstick so much, you are used to them being moist and when they aren't it's more noticeable.  I think you just become more aware and neurotic about it.  At least that's my theory.

  • It is true. DH never uses chapstick and NEVER has dry lips.
  • I'm addicted! I literally can not go anywhere with out chapstick. I put it on all the time.
  • I heard that was the case with wax-based lip conditioners, like ChapStick.

I think what got me was Carmex.  I had to stop using it (after using it for years) and started using regular old chapstick.  Now that doesn't seem to be working either.

  • I think most products have a particular chemical in them that makes them "addictive".  Try out Burt's Bees.... I know it doesn't have an addictive chemical in them.
  • I think it's definitely possible, as I am severely addicted to chapstick!

FWIW, I had to stop halfway through reading this post to apply some.?
