TTC after 35

Results of Progesterone Test

I have had a busy week talking to my doctor's assistant. I found out that my progesterone is a little low (10.94). He wants at least an 11.22. I am starting Clomid in a few days and then having the HSG test done on Tuesday afternoon. I have had such mixed up feelings the past two days. I was relieved to know it's something easily fixed (so far). But then I was so angry at DH for not starting TTC when I wanted to. He wanted to wait until we were in our house to start trying. I had told him before that I was worried that it would take long or that something would be wrong with me. I hate that I was right. Then I go back to being hopeful because I will have two new things going for me this cycle that I've not had in the past 8. I sometimes hate the TTC emotional roller coaster that I am on.

But we did talk last night about DH's SA testing. I didn't make him do it right away because I wanted to see if this cycle did the trick. So, he wants to do his "thing" at home and take it to the lab. I had to tell him how Indiana's DH does his "thing" in the car. We got a big chuckle out of that one. I am glad that he's been so good about doing his part, knowing that I am going through all of the more invasive tests.

He is very nervous about twins and Clomid. My cousin has three kids (twins among them) and she was on Clomid. I am going to have to remind him that there are so many more people who only have one kid from Clomid so he can relax about it. Because I totally will be taking it! So hopefully getting my tubes cleaned out and taking the meds will help get the ball rolling. We'll see! Thanks for all of your support, help, and advice. I don't know what I'd do without this board.

Re: Results of Progesterone Test

  • Lizzy,

You and I have such similar stories. I read your response to my post below. And I too am having an HSG next week (dont know which day yet) and I'm getting started with all of the RE stuff.

I think those of us with DH's that have kids already are in a special group. We know that our DH's will never be as desperate as we are and (at least in my case) there is a person running around my house that reminds us that some other woman gave him what we can't seem to (yet). Most of the time that doesn't bother me, but when AF shows, well...

Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that there is someone out there who gets what you are going through. I'll be following your progress.

  • Hey Lizzy, I just wanted to say I am glad you are getting some answers and have a plan.  Good luck with the HSG and the Clomid! I think the chance of twins isn't that increased on Clomid.  I can't remember the percentage, but I don't think it is that high.  Maybe you can find the stat and show it to DH.

  • I don't know if you should get too upset over your results, I only had a 7.9 at my progesterone test and fortunately was able to get pregnant anyway (with no Clomid). Maybe it helped that I was using OTC natural progesterone cream after ovulation. Anyway, good luck and I hope you get your BFP soon!
Me: 44 DH: 42. DS born healthy at 40 weeks 8/24/09. TTC since then with no luck or ART. Surprise BFP 8/6/14... MMC @ 8 weeks 4 days... Miss you everyday sweet baby angel.
  • Our stories are very similar.  I just started seeing an RE in Feb. My progesterone is also low and I am starting Clomid next clycle.  Had my HSG - everything looked good. DH's SA was also good. MY RE said the risk of multiples is 8-10 % on Clomid.  That does not take into account the slight increase because we're over 35.

I have a few friends with multiples - they say its not so bad.  Since this has been so tough to begin with, I wouldn't mind twins so I wouldn't have to TTC again. I only want 2!
