taxes = kick in the pants

so last year we did our own taxes (with some online help thing) and ended up paying a ton (partly due to my self employment, partly a mistake in our w2 forms) so this year we decide to hire a pro to save some money....

we didn't end up paying as much in taxes (hooray!) but ended up spending exactly the same amount total once you count the $700 fee the tax preparer came out to be.  

you just can't win can you?  stinks big time.  i am in such a bad mood now

i know what you mean. i used to use an online preparer and i'd get a bunch of money back, but last year was complicated because a) our side business and b) the boys, so we had a pro do it. yeah, there went a chunk of our refund!

and he found an error (in our favor) in one of our older refunds, but by the time we paid his fees for the revised return, we pretty much got nothing back! grrr.
