Contractions All day...when did they become the "Real Deal"

Just a little poll. I have had sporatic contractions all day. They aren't BH, they are real contrax, but they are very sporatic (occuring anywhere from 5 minutes, to 45 minutes apart). He has dropped even farther today. I am totally hoping that I am not one of those women who is in labor for days (or continue this way for 3 more weeks)....but I am mentally prepping for this. So Poll:

  • About 4 hours before I had him! Try walking to see if it helps you progress more, or sitting on the birthing ball. My contrax werent "normal" tho, sorry I cant help you more- I was one of those 3 day-ers. :) You'll definitely know when its active labor; you wont be able to function normally anymore, and will have to stop to get thru them.

  • Mine didn't start getting closer together until about 6 hours into labor, but my water broke first. Do lots and lots of walking around to get things going. Go walk around the mall for a couple hours and then come home and eat some pineapple!

  • With my 1st, I woke at 6am, to a crampy feeling that would come every 10 minutes, lasting 30 seconds or less.  This went on ALL DAY.  Around midnight, they started getting longer, and closer together.  By 2:30, DH was calling the hospital as they were 2-3 minutes apart.

I did have two times in the two weeks before this where I felt crampy, but changing my activity usually made them go away.

I am SUPER crampy and the baby is so low right now....OMG!! If this is going to last for 3 weeks, I will kill someone. Poor DH wants desperately to help, but there is nothing he can do.

I have been changing my activity level all day...sitting, walking, standing, lying down, drinking tons of water. Nothing helps, nothing progresses. Just a waiting game at this point.

Did DC move like crazy after the contractions?? Mine has been quite the wiggle worm after each!

  • I didn't go from early labor to active labor in a marked way. I had pretty regular menstrual cramp contractions for about 22 hours.  It was lame and I wasn't able to sleep.  I was barely 4 cm at my scheduled OB appointment the next day so they let me check in.  It took 36 hours altogether.  I hope you have a much speedier labor!

  • From the very beginning of my contractions to the time my dd was born it took a total of 35.5 hours.  It was absolutely dreadful.  This was without any medication because I read pitocin mixed with an epidural can draw labor out even longer.  I went to the hospital with contractions 1 minute apart and they still sent me home because I didn't dilate more than 2cm when I was there for 3 hours.  Oh, and when my contractions were steadily 2-3 minutes apart it was still about 14 hours before my dd was born.
