Does this sound like allergies?

DS has been so healthy this winter. So far he hasn't even had a cold. Two days ago we turned the attic fan on and opened the windows. DS was fine both of those days. Then today (windows closed) his nose starts running like crazy and he is sneezing. It is clear, so that is good. Anyway, do you think it is just a pollen allergy? I don't have anything like that, so I don't even know what to look for.

Re: Does this sound like allergies?

  • It depends on what's blooming outside right now to say for sure, but my experience is that if it were allergies, he would have been starting having symptoms as soon as you opened the windows two days ago. My guess is a cold.
  • It's probably allergies. Here in MS, we can't keep our windows open b/c the pollen is so thick that the vehicles and the grounds are all green. I actually hosed down our driveway yesterday.

  • My experience w/ DS's seasonal allergies:  Last year as spring started, I noticed that his nose was running w/ a clear, runny mucous. When he would play outside, esp. on high pollen days, his eyes would water like crazy and the runny-nose factor amped up times 1000.  He was miserable.  It was pretty obvious that it was hayfever/allergies.  The pedi started him on Claritin and it was cleared up in a few days.
