We stayed on our budget this month! I am amazed! We usually get really off track within the first week of every month. This is mainly due to the almost daily visits we make to Target. That place really is evil!

I usually blow the budget and get stuck having to transfer money into checking. Not this month. I can't believe how well we've done!

Wow- congratulations! Ours is groceries- we are completely unrealistic about how much it costs to feed the five of us. And how much food my husband eats!

Care to share your secrets other than not going to target every day? I'm a victim of target too. I'm hoping now with warmer weather coming we won't be looking for places to shop as often just to get out of the house.

Here's how we did it:

We only eat out once a week now- and that's take-out. We have a huge weakness for our favorite pizza place. They started having a special once a week where you can get a 14 inch pizza for $5. We get that and I make a salad.

I cut our grocery bill in half. We eat a few meatless meals a week, and I shop the sale ads to make our menus.

I also cut back on trips to Target. I make an effort to really think about whether or not we really need what I put in the cart.

I know that when I go over and have to transfer, it just becomes a ridiculous cycle of overspending because I figure feck it-- I already had to transfer money!?
