2nd Trimester

How many weeks are you and how much have you gaineds?

I am 21weeks and I have gained 16pds so far I really don't want to gain much more.  I feel like that is a lot.  Just curious how much everyone else is gaining.

  • I'm 16 weeks, lost 18 pounds in 1st Tri thanks to HG. At my appt at 14wks I was almost back up to my pre-PG weight, so I don't imagine I've "gained" much at this point.

ETA: You say you don't want to gain much more? You do realize you are only halfway there right? And that baby pretty much just grows and grows from here on out.. You will very likely gain much more. And should.

  • Sorry can't type!  I meant GAINED!
  • 24.5 weeks and 20lbs.  All of it has been gained in 2nd tri.  I've been a bit worried that it's too much too fast, but Dr says it's normal and I shouldn't be worried.
  • I'm 21 weeks as well and I've gained around the 6 - 8 lbs. mark.  People gain weight at different rates - don't obsess too much about.  You are more than likely going to gain more, and it's fine.  I tend to gain weight closer to the end of my pregnancies.  With my last one I gained 32 lbs overall with more than half being in the last 10 weeks.   Even if you gained another 16 lbs. that's only 32 lbs - no big deal.
  • Just a heads up... weight posts are not a good idea.
  • 15 weeks and I haven't gained anything.  I'm still at the same weight I started out at.  :)

  • So I have heard there are certain types of posts about weight gain that you SHOULDN'T ask on 2nd tri.....Is this one of those??? Wink
  • Ummm, you are pregnant and are supposed to gain weight.

  • The What to Expect When You're Expecting book says on average, you should gain 3-4 pounds in the first trimester, 12-14 pounds in the second trimester, and 8-10 pounds in the third trimester.   I was concerned that I haven't gained enough, but this helps put it in perspective.   Hopes this helps.

LOL I'm too scared to post my thoughts so can I just ditto the other snarky answers?

Yes .. unless youre asking how much a bag of oreos weighs.. WEIGHT POSTS SUCK!

  • How much you should gain depends on what size you were before you got pregnant. 16 lbs at 21 weeks sounds normal (for someone who was average size pre-pregnancy.) to me. I think they say 25-30lbs is the average most people gain.

I'm 19 weeks and have gained about 15lbs.

    LOL nice, love it!

  • I realize I am supposed to gain weight after all I do have a DD and I did gain 65pds with her.  I am just trying to avoid gaining that much this time.  I thought I was doing better and I have really tried to eat better this time but it just seems like a lot for just 21 weeks.

I would focus more on balanced nutrition than the numbers...Go to www.mypyramid.gov and click on "MyPyramid for Moms"  It will calculate a healthy calorie range and meal planning guide based on your information...this might help keep your weight gain more steady.  Focus on smaller frequent meals and snacks, avoiding sugary beverages and lots of concentrated sweets, lots of veggies and fruits with lean meats and whole grains and such.  Typically you need only 200-300 or so more calories than your body needs pre pregnancy...so that could be taken care of by a couple of balanced snacks in a day.  Hope this helps!
  • 21 weeks ... 5 lbs
  • I have gained 8 lbs in 17 weeks.  I was really sick in the beginning though.  People don't like weight gain posts, and remember, everyone is different.  I try to stay active but still give in to some of my cravings, (okay, most of my cravings).
  • I'm 19 weeks and have gained 12 lbs. I too am trying not to gain as much weight this time around. I felt that I gained too much with DD (40lbs) even though I lost it all plus 6 lbs (thanks to breastfeeding). DD was 8lbs and I'm hoping this DD will be under 8lbs. My goal is to only gain 25 but I'll be happy with anything under 35. I think your weight gain is normal so far.

  • I'm 23 weeks and I've lost 35 lbs-but I'm totally ok with it because I don't want to be one of those "fat" pregnant ladies with my belly all sticking out.  Really, it's disgusting.  I'm going to try and lose as much weight as possible with this pregnancy-I'm sure my baby won't mind the lack of nutrition!  Plus, I don't want a fat baby anyway, so it's best that she starts dieting now...

  • You girls are like featherweights! I am 25 weeks and have gained . . . 24 pounds. And that is with exercising most days and trying to watch what I eat.

Whatever. I'm not too worried. I'm going for 40 or less.

  • Yeah, people are oddly sensitive about weight posts here, which is ridiculous considering its a changing and subjective question because everyone has varying answers (it's not like "is deli meat safe to eat") - plus there are other topics that people post incesantly about that no one seems to mind. ?So ask away and ignore the hormones.

I'm 24 weeks and have gained 16 lbs. ?I was a bit overweight beforehand, so I really want to limit how much I gain from here on out.?

  • I'm almost 17 weeks and as of Tuesday, I am still at my start weight...I don't FEEL like I am, but apparently scales don't lie.  They aren't too concerned yet.

  • 15 weeks and I've lost 1 lb. ?Yes, overweight, PCOS, etc., but I eat all the time, get lots of veggies and protein, and of course, plenty of the ice cream food group. :)

    Why does everyone obsess, btw??

    LMAO

  • You are fine - I've read for someone with a health body weight pre-preg. that around 25-35 pounds is healthy.  Many of the posts on here are right that weight should be the last concern - to make you feel better maybe, I am 27 weeks and prob. already gained 30 pounds.  Doctor said at my exam on Monday that my weight gain is fine.  I have gained pretty steadily throughout this whole process, so at 21 weeks I was around a plus 20 lbs prob.  I'll have to figure out how to post pics - I get comments from ppl at work that say I look great (just gotta stay away from the sweets in the office now)  (:

  • Uhhh you are aware that you are supposed to gain 25-25 lbs if you are of average weight, right?
