new ob/gyn question

i had DS at 32w6d due to a placenta previa diagnosed at our 20w u/s.  i also had trouble conceiving and spent my first 12 weeks with an RE. turns out i have PCOS. my ob was awful. she actually had the nerve to blame my first bleeding incident on me (i didn't do any of the things she told me not to). also, 2 of the other doctors in her practice mentioned concerns they had about my treatment.

so, i have an appointment to meet with a new ob/gyn on april 6th. hopefully this new ob will deliver our next child (in a couple of years!). it's my understanding that i am more likely to have a previa issue again due to the PCOS, c-section, and prior previa. does anyone have any experience with this? should i just go straight to a high-risk ob? any specific questions i should ask the new ob?

does anyone have any ideas? thanks!

Re: new ob/gyn question

  • I don't have any prior experience with this.  However, it might be in your best interest and your future baby to start out with a high-risk ob.  I did with my 2nd child and am glad I did.  High risk obs have more training in the problems that may come up during PG and have a better handle on what to do.

  • thanks, that's what i'm thinking too....how does that work? i assume i go to a regular ob/gyn while i'm not pregnant and then go to the high risk ob when i am? do you meet with the high risk ob beforehand or just call after you POAS? sorry, i'm new at this attentive medical professionals thing! • The practice I went to had high risk OB's on staff.  I was already PG when I called to make my appointment -- #2 for us was a big surprise.  So I'm not much help for you there.  You really don't need to see a high risk OB until you are PG.  You could call and see what they say in your OB office.  Because of your history they might just have you see a high risk OB from the start.  Good luck -- keep us posted how things go.

  • thanks. maybe i'll see if i can find a different practice with a high risk ob on staff, that's a great idea. otherwise i'll discuss with the new dr on the 6th. thanks again!
  • i found a new ob with an interest in high risk pregnancy (he should find me super exciting when i get pregnant again!) and a bunch of maternal/fetal medicine specialists on staff. and they deliver in the childrens hospital, so if we end up in the NICU again we're in the best NICU in the area. i feel much better. thanks for the advice!
