Hi girls- just wondering about your experiences with RSV. Jack was born at 35w 2d and was discharged from the hospital at 7 days old. On day 10, he was re-admitted after testing positive for RSV. Today he seems very congested- they are hoping he is in the worst of it right now. How did your babies do with it? How long was the hospital stay? How did they do after they came home? Any advice? Thanks so much!
Re: RSV questions
Both of my girls got RSV at 6 weeks and it was no fun at all. Stella spent 4 nights at the hospital, and Poppy spent 6 nights. It basically gets worse before it gets better they say. RSV usually takes a week or so to run its course, the worst of it on days 4-5. So if they think Jack is already at the worst part, it will start getting better and he'll probably end up going home in a few days. Once my girls were released from the hospital, we did nebulizer treatments at home for a few days and that was it. They recovered really well. Good luck!
Both of my babies had RSV when they were 3 weeks old and it sucked. They were born at 37 weeks. Ben had it much worse than Kate. He was in the hospital for 6 days and she was in the hospital for 3. Ben was on oxygen the whole time we were there bc his oxygen levels were too low w/out it. Ben was given breathing treatments every 2 hours in the hospital and when we were released we were supposed to do them at home when he needed them so we did them every 4 hours at first and then dropped down. They were both just sick when we got home and it took about a full month for them to get back to normal. They were still congested and just not themselves. They both got double ear infections as well bc of all the fluid so keep an eye on that.
Hope they feel better soon.
