Nurseries and Baby Gear

I could use some decorating help

I could use some decorating advice.  We are having a boy in August.  My DH also has a 6 year old son.  Baby and SS will share a room.  SS is only here every other weekend.  I got super upset last night that I don't get to make a nursery for my little Peanut.  I found star bedding that I really like and want to do that for the baby's half.  Any suggestions on how we can have 2 different spaces in one room?  FYI:  The room is pretty small.

This is the bedding I want to use if that helps any.

  • Blue and Brown are very in now. I am sure that you can find some bedding that will work with that for your ss bed and his side of the room. Maybe even paint the 2 sides of the room different colors - or use an accent color on one of the sides of the room.

Hope that Helps some.. post your progress - would love to see what you do with it.

  • That is adorable! You could always paint a neutral color that would match the SS bedding and the baby's... then do their own accents.

You could get some kind of tall bookcase and use it as  a divider and for storage!!

I would also look on the board and rate myspace for shared spaces!!

  • That bedding would be very easy to find a complimentary twin bedding for SS.  This is a girl's room (and not the best picture), but it shows a very small room with a twin bed and a crib...

Here is another picture (and you can tell this room is really small)...

I think if you get creative, you could make an amazing space for both kids!!

  • If you really want to maximize space, you could buy ss a loft bed similar to this with a desk underneath.

  • When DS was born, he ended up sharing a room with my DD until we moved into a bigger house.  Since DD's room was decorated in pink, we re-did the entire room.  I gave DD several gender-neutral theme choices and let her pick what the basic idea would be (she picked Elmo & Sesame Street).  Then I let her look at different pictures online with me and we picked out new bedding for her and the baby.  I think it really helped her to feel less like the baby was invading her room.

Remember, whether he is there just everyother weekend or not, SS was there first and it was his room first.  It would probably help him to feel more like he was part of everything if you included him with the decisions you are making about transforming his bedroom.  You can still make a super cute nursery that will be "six-year-old" friendly.  You may have to be a little more flexible with your design ideas, but this could be a great way for the two of you to do something special together before the baby arrives.  GL!
