2nd Trimester

quad screen.

if you went for one, when did you go?  my midwife told me 15-16 weeks but i'm also measuring 6 days ahead.  i don't want to go too early but i don't want to go later because i want to be able to retest if i get a positive. plus i want to get it out of the way.

ugh, i wonder if i should even take it at all.

Re: quad screen.

  • We did it at 16 weeks. I thought it was unnecessary since nothing runs in our family but since insurance covered the test, I thought it couldn't hurt to do it and get the peace of mind. It never really occured to me that it might show a false positive but thatnkfully, that didn't happen.

  • I had it done at 16 weeks and 5 days - but I didn't have to decide when to get it done, my doctor just told me when she was going to do it.

nothing runs in my family and i'm young, but it was a surprise so i didn't get any folic acid in the first 6 weeks.  so... i'm worried about spina bifida and i'm hoping this will clear my head of that fear.

  • I did it this week at 16 weeks.  I would go halfway between for you since you are ahead.
  • Its usually done sometime between 15-18 weeks. I am not going to get it done, because if something did come back positive I wouldnt want an amniocentesis and it wouldnt change anything anyways!

i'm glad i got the choice but in a way i wish the decision was made for me.  i'm such an indecisive person!

  • I did it at 18 weeks 5 days, I read in the pamphlet that you can do it up to 22 weeks. It is not a big deal at all it is just a blood draw and you don't get a positive or negative result you get a risk number. Insurance covers it. If the result comes back that you are at a higher risk usually the next step is a level two ultrasound and if that comes back risky you get an amnio for 100% results.

  • When I had mine, my doctor told me it could be done anytime from 15 weeks up to 20 weeks. I had mine done at 17 weeks so if I needed additional testing before 20 weeks it would be possible.

i know you get a number, i'm just lazy.  Big Smile

  • I had mine done at 18w 0d and get my results back tomorrow at the big u/s.  They won't retest if it comes back with a higher risk, they will do an u/s and if further testing is needed they will do amnio.
  • Mine's scheduled for tonight!
  • I just had mine yesterday and I was 16w 6days, and my dr. just did it I did not know I was even going to have it done, but I wanted it done anyway.
