Where do you store your toys?

And where do you store them?

We have lots of toys in the living room some small things some big things. But they are kind of just along the wall and I think Robbie is kind of over stimulated with them because there are so many. He does not really meet that interested in really any of them.

Do you have a toy box or a rubber mail storage bin? I just have no clue where to put them so we can use them but have them not just scattered all over.

  • We have them in mesh travel baskets...toys kind of take over the living room til the kids get bigger and will actually play in their room (bigger as in age 5 or 6)

  • Our entertainment center has open shelves. ?We removed everything from 3 of the shelves and put baskets of toys on the shelves instead. ?It hides the toys and make clean-up really easy. ?We also have a large woven basket in the corner with blocks and the train set. ?The kitchen set, piano, and fire truck are just out. ?They're too big to put away.

Evie also has a bunch of toys in a toybox in her room and in a basket in her closet. ?They were overtaking the living room and she didn't play with them all anyway, so I put a bunch of them away. ?I'll rotate them later.?

  • They're scattered everywhere right now.  :)  I've been wanting to get a trunk/chest for them but haven't been able to find one the right size and for a decent price.  I'd like something that blends in with our living room furniture.  You could try Costplus or Pier 1 if you're looking for something like that.

  • We have 2 big baskets (one upstairs and one down) that we put her small to medium size toys in. The baskets sit on a low shelf where she can get to them. For her larger toys (activity table, ride-on, etc.) we store them in the landing. This way they are out of the way and can't be seen when people come upstairs, but still close enough that we can bring them into the loft one at a time for her to play with.

The big baskets we got at IKEA and they have been awesome!

  • I just realized the basket is in my siggy pic... even when it's not filled with toys, it still keeps her entertained ;)
  • We have a big black metal basket we keep under a sofa table which holds the majority of his toys.  It's pretty big, like 3 ft x 2 ft x 2 ft, maybe even bigger than this.  Got it at Target a few years ago. Then books go in a big woven basket (Pier 1) that is just a bit smaller. It sits against the wall next to a chair and is always overflowing.  Then both our end tables have woven baskets on the shelf so store puzzles and their pieces there. We also have two large bookcases which have baskets on the bottom in case we need more storage.

I'm a bit anal so when we moved into our house while I was pregnant, we looked for new furniture that would help to disguise/organize kids toys without looking like a playroom.   There are so many good baskets and such out there now, just keep your eyes open and I'm sure you can find something.

  • Oh great ideas thanks so much.

  • we just have a laundry basket filled with toys....she loves to pull it over and dig in them.  :)  Plus the laundry basket made it easy to travel with all her toys this last weekend.  :)
  • We have a wooden toy box that currently just has stuffed animals in it and we need to take those out and use the box for real toys...

We also have a canvas covered laundry basket that looks nicer than a regular laundry basket and that has a lot of toys in it.  And then ther's just crap everywhere.

I would love to get one of those toy bin shelf things, but I dont' knwo where we could fit it.
