at the pedi today, she noticed that Wyatt's soft spot in the front is really small...(anterior fontanelle, if you want to use the big words...)
she said we'd need to keep an eye on it, and that if it closed too early, surgery may be needed....( closure of the skull too early could prevent brain growth and cause serious problems...)
uh. oh my god.?!?
So I have been reading on the subject, and it seems like the average time for it to close is 18 months, but it CAN happen at 9 months...his is really little...like the diameter of maybe a little bigger than a pencil eraser? Juniper's was WAY bigger than that for way longer. ( he is only 8 weeks old....)
she told me not to freak out or worry-but how can I not?!?
any experience with this?
Re: soft spot ( anterior fontanelle) closing too quickly? XP
This happened to a boy at my church. He's 5 and has had 2 surgeries for it.
My friend came to visit today and said something about DS's soft spot so now I'm freaking out and can't wait to get to the pedi and ask them about it.
I was thinking about it today that I don't really notice his soft spot anymore when I rub his head... hmm.
I hope all is well with your little babe, and try not to worry (too much!)
