Did your B automatically send you to one? If so why?
If you are having twins does that make you high risk right away?
If he doesn't, should I ask to see one?
Can you tell I am so confused?

Re: Seeing a peri..lots of questions...
My OB has his multiples patients start seeing MFM at 20 weeks with the Level 2 big ultrasound. It's just their protocol. Not every OB does this; I've seen both on this board so it depends. I went every 4 weeks from 20 weeks forward. Starting 2 weeks ago, I've been going every week for biophysical profiles and/or growth ultrasounds to make sure the babies are okay.
I have mono/di twins so I am at risk for TTTS so (my opinion only) is that if your twins share a placenta they should be seen by a peri or MFM..
Thanks, I am not sure if they are sharing yet. I don't think the RE told me yet.
What is an MFM?

Yes- my OB automatically considers twins somewhat high risk- having me come in for more appts with him- and also seeing a Peri. He suggested the peri before I even got to bring it up.
The peri just does US's - i have never had to see the actual doc there- just the techs- since, thankfully, nothing has ever been wrong in our US's. I have had monthly USs with the peri since 12w -which will become every week I think after 36w if all is going well.
My OB appts have been every month, but after my next one, at 28w- they will be every 2w.
You should ask to see a peri, too. have you read Dr. Luke's book yet? It goes into detail about seeing both docs, etc.
If they're telling you they're identical, then they're sharing a placenta. And an MFM is a maternal-fetal medicine specialist. Same thing as a peri.
You absolutely should see one, since monochorionic twins are riskier than dichorionic.

MFM and Peri are the same, just by different names.
Twins does automatically make you high risk. If you do mostly (or completely) see an OB please make sure they have a LOT of experience with twins pregnancies. You are at a higher risk for things with twins (for example pre-e) and an OB experienced with multiples will know what to look for. If your OB isn't experienced with LOTS of multiples you should probably look for another or absolutely add a peri/MFM to the mix. I think a lot of ladies see both and alternate every 2 weeks.
I can't help beyond that -- I only saw the MFM my entire pg and actually never saw a regular OB (started with triplets).
I am reading the book now. I am just on the subject of eating and weight gain.
There is so much to worry about with twins. There is so much going on. They did form their own amniotic sac. Does that many anything?

that is fantastic news. it means they're not monoamniotic (which would mean they could get tangled, etc.) sweater's boys were monoamniotic, and it was a tough road for her. anyway, i digress. it just means your twins are di-mo (diamniotic, monochorionic - two amniotic sacs, one chorion/placenta.)

You ladies are awesome. Thanks for answering questions you probably answer all the time. I am so clueless with twins. I knew everything about TTC and fertility treatments, but now that I am pregnant I feel so clueless.
