I have just started looking at furniture for the nursery. ?My first instinct was to check Consumer Reports in order to find out safety ratings (I check Consumer Reports for everything!). ?Anyway, I found 4 cribs there that I liked. ?So, I then came to this board to see which cribs were mentioned most and I think I've only seen one of them mentioned. ?I'm curious, how did you decide which crib was best for you?
Re: Cribs: How did you decide?
Definitely check them out in person. Some of them get 'good' reviews by people online and I've seen them and didn't like them. Its also been my opinion that you get what you pay for. When they are super cheap they are usually not the best quality.
Also, figure out what your plans are. We are getting a convertible crib, so we plan on having the furniture until our baby is ready for college. Because of that, we don't mind spending more $$ up front now for really good quality. When DC1 was born, we did the same thing.
I agree with PP - check it out in person.
I found a brand I liked that was in our price range, that had good reviews online and in Baby Bargains. I also wanted one I could see in person, so I went with a brand carried at Buy Buy Baby and USA Baby. I narrowed it down to a style I liked, then had to decide between the lifestyle and dropside versions. At first I liked the style of the dropside better. After checking them out in the store, I decided against the dropside because it didn't feel super sturdy.
