I don't like it because I like names that are obvious how to pronounce. I prefer Maya.
So do I. I had hoped that most people would be familiar with the name since it's embedded in Greek history. I'll have to think about that.... Thanks for your input.

You're welcome. I'm a college graduate and I'm not very familiar with Greek history. I would say the average person isn't either.?
Well, I'm not familiar with any Greek associations with Maya, but there was a whole band of people who lived/live in Central and South America known as the Mayans and were part of the Maya Civilization (m-eye-ans) which is what I associate the name Maya with. I think the name Maia helps the association lessen.
Belive me, I'm no history buff, but Maia is of Greek origin and often is interpreted as "brave warrior" or "great mother." In Greek mythology, Maia was the head of the beautiful nymphs and the mother of Hermes.
In Roman mythology, Maia is associated with springtime, and the month of May was named in her honor.
This is all nice (maybe not the nymph part haha), but really, I just like the name. I prefer the look of Maia over Maya, especially with the Mayan association, and when I was young, I knew an older girl named Maia, who was beautiful, talented, nice, you name it. She - and her name - left a lasting impression.
I really like this name! I like both spellings, Maia and Maya. This is the top girl name on my sister's list and I'm already excited about someday having a niece named Maia/Maya. :-)
Historically, this was one of my favorite girl names. When it started to become really popular, I moved away from it. However, as a name, without knowing its popularity, I still like the way it sounds - very pretty!
Re: Thoughts on Maia
Very pretty and I've never heard it before which I think is nice
Yup, just like Maya. mEYE-uh.
Maia has the benefit over the "Maya" spelling of not reminding one of Incas and Aztecs.

Maia is okay, but I wouldn't use it personally.
Audrey Jane from your list is gorgeous.
