Even though I have 1/3 asian background, enough that half my family has suffered discrimination over the years, I really really like being middle class in one of the anglo-saxon first world countries (be that the UK, US, Australia, Canada, NZ).
DH got an offer to go and work in Turkey for 6 months. I know lots of you would jump at it (or at least jump at going for a few months) but it just leaves me cold. I've also spent a year in Asia, including booming China. Again, not interested.
I love the first world lifestyle thanks and I'm not ashamed to say that roughing it everywhere else doesn't appeal. If I could speak a bunch of languages I'd love Western Europe just as much.
That's all. Go on, tell me how wonderful Africa and Asia can be...?
Re: I'm just an anglo saxon kind of girl...
I agree I wouldn't want to live in Turkey. Your post caught my attention, though, b/c in my senior English classes, my students study the actual Anglo-Saxons. Reading your post made me envision you in Beowulf-style
. I need to read some more modern literature.
