When I was pregnant my ob/GYN told me to limit the amount of freshwater fish I was eating because of the mercury. I completely stayed away from salmon and tuna, and ate Tilapia maybe once while I was pregnant. When I was nursing I ate a serving of fish maybe once every other week. I did take my DHA supplement everyday while pg and nursing. DD is almost two and she eats eggs and drinks milk that contains DHA/omega 3s. She has never eaten fish of any kind. So when did you introduce fish to your little one?

10 months for shellfish...about 2 when he had fish.
BTW..I took a biopsych research class in college and one of the main things we focused on was making sure articles we read were legitimate (they used normal sample sizes, didn't stretch their results etc.) One of the main topics we read on was about mercury in fish and pregnancy and that there really is no evidence to support any mercury poisioning risks; unfortunately many people including doctors still believe this to be true. I'm sure they have the best intentions, but read an overview article in a journal rather than reading the 5 articles that came to the results on a bogus sample. I'd be happy to share more with you or anyone else, if your interested.
after DC was a year I started letting them both eat fish. Our pedi gave the all clear at a year and so there were no more food restrictions for them (we don't have any family histories for food allergies on either side so that may be part of the reason for not limiting).
Salmon is not a high mercury fish, neither is tilapia. This list has it spelled out:
