Philadelphia Babies

Seamstress S.O.S.

I'm new to the Conshohocken area and am getting married in 7 weeks.  I need a seamstress that specializes in maternity so that when I pick a dress, she/he can help me modify it (I'm planning on an empire waist, but for some reason all of those dresses come with a fitted slip underneath, that I will need to change for the growing baby belly I'm slowly starting to have)..Do any of you know of anyone that is a good seamstress and is reasonable?  I'd really appreciate any help anyone could offer.  Also, I've looked into maternity wedding gowns, but a. haven't been able to find any local shops and b. haven't been able to find one online that either wasn't hideous or wasn't insanely expensive!

Help!

Re: Seamstress S.O.S.

  • congrats on your upcoming wedding. Philadelphia has a lot of Fashion Design School where students or graduates often are for hire---That is who you don't want to use.  Wedding Gowns are special, complicated garments (even the simplest of gowns can hide complicated seaming and construction). I had Premier tailor on Sansom Street downtown handle one of my very delicate, chiffon dresses for one of my prewedding events and they did a perfect job. They are on Sansom in between 18th and 17th street.

And you are right maternity stuff is hidious and way too expensive. I was a buyer and designer for Anthropologie and urban Outfitters and through experemention :) I have figured out that the only maternity stuff I need it 2 belly bands and Isabella Oliver jeans. Other than that I wear all regular stuff just in a size up.

    Good Luck.
