Baby Names

Lynise???

Is this a real name or a made up name? ?I saw this was a persons name in an email was reading but cant find it on babyname sites so I was just curious.

?I like it as a middle name for a future DD because its combines parts of my mothers name Joycelyn and??DH's mothers name Denise. But I am still not a huge fan of made up names....

Re: Lynise???

  • Sorry, but I just don't see how Lynise coincides with Jocelyn. I don't like the name, to be honest, and it does sound made up. I've heard a name pretty similar to that, which is Lysette. GL!

  • Yes, it sounds made up, especially w/the Y.  I love the sentiment but the name just isn't something that sounds right IMO.

  • My mothers name is pronounced Joyce Lyn and I thought this name was pronounce Lyn Neece???? ?So thats how Joycelyn is included the LYN in her name and the NISE in the other.?

Thanks for the comment though because I really just wanted to know if this was heard before as I hadnt see it until the other day. Lysette is cute but doesnt really fit with the purpose. ?If it was up to my DDs middle name would be Joy lol but DH isnt loving the idea.?

  • Is that supposed to be pronounced Lynn-ese?

NMS but it doesn't sound that made up.

  • I kinda like combo names, especially if they're created in an effort to honor family members (I completely see how Lynise works for JoceLYN and DenISE). But I also think that if they're a little.... unusual... they work better as middle names.
  • Definitely sounds made up to me.  As pp said, Lisette is a real name (never seen it with a Y), which may be where they got this (or Lynnette, maybe).    If you want to use both of your mom's names, I'd probably make one first and one middle, or hope you had two girls at some point.  I think Lynise would have to do lots of correcting pronunciation and spelling.

It does sound made up...but I understand wanting to use family names.  What about using lyn in a first name like Lynette or Lyndra or Madelyn?  Using Denise in a middle name or for a 2nd child?

  • My BFF's middle name is Lenise.  It was made up for her as a combo of her two aunts: Lynn and Denise.
