Had no idea a Chuckie Cheeses bday party was so $$$

Ethan wanted his party there next month and we said sure.  Then found out it is $17 a kid.  Forget that mess.  I guess CC isn't that bad of a place, contrary to how I used to feel, but so not worth $17 per kid.

  • But that's everything but the cake, right? ?And you don't have to set up or clean up a damn thing.

We're going to end up paying >$500 for the bounce place my DS wants, so I think that sounds like a deal!?

  • I am with you.  I can order pizza and hire an entertainer for that.

  • It seems pretty ridiculous.

But if you think about it...we just had a party at home for DS' 7th b-day.  After pizza, cake, ice cream, decorations...we easily spent $300.

  • If it includes everything, that's not bad; especially considering you can control the cost by deciding how many kids to invite. ? The place we just rented out is $375 for 2 hours, for "up to" 30 kids. ?Well, the guest list is about 14 kids, not 30, so ours ends up being something like $30 per kid. ?But it's worth it b/c we don't have to do anything but show up and enjoy the party.

I think $17 per kid is pretty cheap! ?

  • My BFF loves to make cakes so she always makes the kids cakes.  I can buy $100 in food for guests from Costco and decorations are never an issue - we just blow up a bunch of balloons really.  The kids play and clean up hasn't ever been a huge deal.  I just thought it would be fun to have it somewhere else and he wanted CC.

I think some of my issue is paying for people that may not end up showing up.  But it also just seems a little too cheesy of a place for that much money per person.

  • My first and last statements sound contradictory but when I initially said not that bad of a place, what I mean is that it's tolerable enough to decide to have a party there.

You don't HAVE to use their package. You can have your DH go in when they open the doors (9:30a around here) and "Reserve" 4 or 5 tables. Then just buy the food and tokens as people show up (check out coupons online, usually the best deal). We did this for our Goddaughter -- we even brought our own table cloths and plates and stuff.

The down side is that you have to have someone sit there until the party starts so that people don't mess with your stuff.

It's sooooooooo much cheaper to do it this way.
