Hi ladies. For the most part I've just "stalked" the site for advice, which is wonderful! But I need a little reassurance. I sliced my thumb open last night and had to get a tetanus shot (which I know is safe during pregnancy), and I got stitches, which required a lidocaine (I think that's what they used) shot. The dr. and nurse stated this was safe, yet I read on line that this could cross the placenta. Now I'm just nervous that I may have harmed the baby. I guess I'm not looking for much...just had to vent a bit! Oh, and I'm 12 weeks, 1 day. Thanks for all the advice I get from this site, and H&H 9 months to all of you!
Re: Stitches, lidocaine, and tetanus shot
You're fine. When I was pg with DD, I had a crown placed on one of my molars when I was around 17 weeks. The dentist had to give me many, many shots of lidocaine (or similar anesthetic) because my body metabolizes anesthetics and pain meds very quickly. He normally gave 2-3 shots, and he had to give me 13 shots just to keep it numb enough to work.
DD turned out fine. She does not have a third eye as a result of me having that procedure done.
I had lidocaine during my last pregnancy twice for skin cancer testing and surgery. My DS turned out fine. I also had the tetanus shot with him too after being bit by a doggie.
