Wainscotting question

I have wanted to do wainscotting in the nursery since we found out we were expecting... but now I have a question.
I think I would like to do it like this... (with 1x4's and then paint them all white)

But my problem is this... in our house all of the trim (windows, baseboards etc) are wood instead of white.  So do you think it would look weird with the white wainscotting and wood colored trim around the doors/window?

Re: Wainscotting question

  • Sorry, I do think it would look odd. Can you paint the trim in the nursery the same white?

    Don't say sorry! I asked :)
That's what my dad told me to do.... I just didn't know if I wanted to open up that whole other can of worms.  hmmmm... I guess I need to think about it.

  • Yeah I totally hear you on the can of worms! We thought about doing wainscoting, but it just seemed like so much work, now I'm worried about our paint being too dark - I cant' seem to win. Good luck! Hopefully it won't be THAT bad! The only other thing, if you really didn't want to pain all the trim, would be to skip the wainscoting and do paint/furniture that goes with the wood color it already is.  It sounds like you really want the wainscoting though and I do agree that white trim vs. wood normally looks best :)
  • I'm thinking I'm going to have to give up my idea of the wainscoting.  Maybe I can do the bottom half of wall a different color with a chair rail around.. or two walls 1 color and other two another color!

    Thanks for your help :)

  • To give my opinion I would do the chair rail option.  I just think when people paint wood white it ruins the beauty of the house.
