Most of us have a few more tests than the younger crowd. I had the NT scan. I also had gestational diabetes. The general risk is 5 % but it is 10 % for women over 35. ?
Blood pressure issues are a little more likely too. ?
Otherwise the issues are the same - morning sickness & baby showers etc. Good luck.
Really, the main test would be the Nuchal Translucency (NT) Scan that gives a risk for Down's Syndrome, Trisomy 13 and Trisomy 18 (other chromosomal disorders than are mostly fatal). It seems that on The Bump, many younger women decide to skip them?saying they would not terminate a pregnancy if the risk was high.
However, the NT Scan is not diagnostic. So if the risks are high the diagnostic (and invasive) testing would be a CVS (Chorionic Villus Scan), which is done 9-12 weeks and gives you and early answer re: DS and Trisomy but does not test for Spina Bifida. An Amnio is done around 16 weeks. There are risks of miscarriage with both?CVS is higher. But if you have access to a Perinatologist who does them often, the risk goes down.
Otherwise the only other testing would be the Alpha Fetaprotein test (AFP) at 15-19 weeks (best between 16-18) that younger folks often skip. Some insurance companies don't cover many tests for under-35's as well.
I'm pretty certain that most pregnant women have the Glucose Tolerance test (for Gestational Diabetes) and the initial bloodwork and urine samples (at every visit) are standard.
Re: not pg yet but can you tell me
There was the same questions a few days ago. Good luck TTC!
