Can I use HE laundry detergent in a reg washer?

DH bought HE detergent because he wasn't paying attention.  I have lots of laundry to do and I don't know if I need to make a special trip to exchange it or not. 

Does anyone know?

I have used it in trhe regular washer and it was fine. I ended up putting it in the washer then letting the water run for a minute before I added the clothes. I believe it is just a little more concentrated then the regular. I didn't use more then what was recommended for the he washer and the clothes were clean.

Thanks for your reply.  I did decide to go to the store to exchange it, because I remembered I needed a small gift anyway.
