Some people have told me NO Seafood. Ok, this whole pregnancy thing is kicking my butt! No pop or coffee, means I am not the most cheerful person in the world. Is this rule for all seafood, fish, or what? Is shrimp out? Any help would be great! Thanks!~
Re: Seafood...
Seriously? Google this... talk to your doctor... you're being ridiculous.
Caffeine is ok in moderation... I usually have two drinks a day with caffiene in it.
Seafood is fine. Just don't eat any fish that is high in mercury (not commonly found in the US... they have high standards for fish), and nothing raw.
I heard all seafood is ok (INCLUDING mackeral and tuna only if you eat a small amount because of their supposed high mercury content) and all seafood must be fully cooked, which is a bummer for me because I am a hard core sushi and raw oyster lover. But yea, I wouldn't worry about eating seafood, it's not like you're gonna eat them every day, 7 days a week. I would just watch on shrimp only because they are high cholesterol food but like I said, you're not gonna eat that same food everyday.
and as for coffee, my dr said one cup a day is fine. They are just advising you to not drink as much because coffee messes with your stomach acid and makes you feel more nauseous during your m/s stages.

my dr. said fish twice a week. it's good for your DHA intake anyway. And my doc also said I could have 3 cups of coffee safely. Which is way more than I drink anyway....
BUT I will say I did cut my caffeine out with DD and she is very laid back so I'd hate to jinx this baby and make him/her high strung because I drank a lot of caffeine haha
As my doctor told me, "you sound like you will be your own pregnancy police" - but please ENJOY your pregnancy. ?
Like previous posts - avoid high levels of mercury, and talk to your doctor about how much caffeine will be safe for you and baby.
But otherwise, use common sense
?A balanced diet is a good way to go! ?
Seafood is fine. Here's a list of where fish sit on the high --> low mercury chart, so you'll know which ones to avoid. Basically, the bigger predators are the worst to eat - the smaller fish and shellfish are fine.
Alot of lake fish is high in mercury... I can only eat ceartin minnesota fish once a month some once every other month... so depending on the size of the lake check with your DNR or your local OB
My doctor gave me a "fish list." You can probably find one online pretty easily. I was relieved to see the shrimp was on the eat 3-4 servings per week list, because I had just pigged out on shrimp the day before and I have a habit of reading that something is bad for pregnancy right after I've eaten it!
Just keep your sense of humor and make educated decisions that are right for you. You'll find lots of different opinions about many of the "what to eat" subjects.
Moderation is the key. you DO NOT have to avoid seafood, pop coffee or lunchmeat just eat/drink in moderation.
