supply issues

I have posted before about all the problems I have had with my supply. I have started to exclusively pump b/c a LC told me it would help get better results. I am taking Fenugreek and feel like it is not helping. The past 3 times I have pumped I have only gotten a few drops from my right side. My left side I usually get 1-2 ounces but it is still not enough so we are supplementing. Any suggestions would be helpful. I am getting to the point where I think it is pointless to pump. I know some breastmilk is better than none though. I pump every 2-3 hours, unless there is a conflict then I do it ASAP. During the night time, I usually get up to pump but to be honest sometimes I don't. Do you think this is what is hurting my supply?

Re: supply issues

  • I've been using More Milk Plus and I think it's helped.

There are a lot of things you could do.

    1. Eat oatmeal (I've heard it helps)

    2. Make sure you are drinking plenty of water

    3. Try doing this: https://newborns.stanford.edu/Breastfeeding/MaxProduction.html

    4. If you can, try pumping more (even if your not getting anything).

And  if all else fails, talk to your LC about getting a prescription for domperidone.

    Good luck!

  • you NEED to get up and pump at night if you are EPing- yes it sucks but i guarantee you the more you pump early on the less likely you will have long term supply issues. you have to pump every single time your baby eats and more. if you baby is STTN at four weeks- sorry but you have to pump every 2-3hrs still. you should be pumping at least ten times a day.

  • If your baby will latch, THAT is what will bring your supply up. Your body needs BABY to be sucking to signal production. It's just one of those crazy biological things. Some women just don't produce the same when they pump and it's not reasonable to ask your body to perform for a machine for very long. I, for one, have a limited supply but not a low supply. If I EP for more than about 2 days, my supply dips so low that it takes ages to get it back up.?

If it's possible, I'd definitely be putting baby to the breast instead, as much as possible. You might even consider a nursing "vacation" while baby is still small enough to make this a possibility! ?
