Resume buffs come in please

I'm redoing my resume for a job at corporate for a restaurant.  I'm adding my serving experience to it, but I have no idea what to put besides server.  Should I put an explanation or would that be silly?  I normally leave that job off, but thought I'd add it since it's restaurant experience and sorta relates.

  • If you're asking for advice on what to add, it might be helpful to tell us what position you're applying for. ?You might also sound more serious if you didn't use words like "sorta" in your question.

  • Damn Gina. Uncalled for. It's not like she said "sorta" on her resume.

I'm confused - do you mean should you add some bullets w/ certain job duties under the headline for server, or just leave server with the name of the place and dates only?  I, personally, think you should add the bulleted info w/ job description and details - even though it is obvious.

Also, I would put anything related to a restaurant experience under the Main Resume Heading "Career-Related Experience", followed by Professional Experience that holds the info for other jobs outside of the restaurant industry.  Make sense?

  • Hey girl.  Good luck on the job search.

Of course you should highlight your work experience in detail.  A server has a vital function and role in the whole process and don't assume that everyone knows what you did and how relevant it is to the job you are applying for, so it is your job to make it REALLY clear to them even if it seems elementary.  Servers are the restaurant laisons that ensure that the customer is satisfied.  Definitely point out your job responsibilities that you had that are related to the new job you are applying for. Try to even use the same wording from the job description.  For instance if they say "we need a self starter" then you should try to use similar wording in your resume and cover letter.

If you want me to look over your resume just page me.  I don't come to this board much but you can find me over on TTCAL and I can provide feedback. I am/was a college counselor so I have looked at alot of resumes!
