xp: IUGR Experiences?

We just had an appt with the MFM today. Baby B has a velamentous cord and has been a little bit behind her sister all along. In the past month she fell from the 40th percentile down to the 10th percentile. I know there isn't much I can do except keep eating lots of protein, but was just looking to hear about any other experiences with this. I'm hoping it stabilizes, but the doctor said we may have to look into delivering early if it gets worse a month from now.

Re: xp: IUGR Experiences?

  • My DD was IUGR, but because I had pre-e ... not because of any cord issues (that we know of anyway).  I had to deliver her at 28 weeks (again, not just because of her IUGR, but because I had a seizure and was heading toward kidney and liver failure rapidly).  Anyway ... she was born at 1 lb 11 oz at 28 weeks exactly.  She is now over 20 lbs at 16 months and is doing great.  She is 10% for her real age and 25-50% for her adjusted age.  The high risk clinic and her regular pedi are satisfied with the catch-up growth she has had to date.  Because my pre-e was sudden and severe I really didn't have time to do anything to try to help her grow more in utero.  Sorry I can't be of much help.
  • My DS was IUGR. He was completely off the charts by the time he was delivered. But, he didn't get delivered because of IUGR, I was induced due to a placental abruption and then a very sudden attack of very bad pre-e. DS was born at 32 weeks 6 days, 2lbs15oz. My understanding is that unless a cause is found that is correctable by delivery, even with an IUGR baby, it is best to keep them in as long as possible. All the best!
