what would you have done?

I was in the mall last night and a lady was fussing at her 9ish year old son.  I noticed a shoe in her hand.  Then, she started beating him with it in his stomach.  He's yelling, she's yelling and I almost puked watching it.

    I really would have to be in that situation to determine what I would have done, which would have ranged from "nothing" to "intervening directly" to "telling a mall cop"

    If I didnt have my kids with my I would have tried to take the shoe away.  Im the nosey person who will step in even if I dont know you.  ESP if you are beating a child with a SHOE! 

    If I had the kids with me I could see myself saying something from a distance.  "Ma'am, please stop hitting him/her with the shoe before I call the police."  "Ma'am please calm down and stop hitting the child"

    OR I would have called for a Mall security guard/cop.
