Has anyone machine-washed a Care Bear?

DD has had a very runny nose and cold all week, and her favorite stuffed animal -her Care Bear.....is pretty gross!  I don't think 'surface cleaning' is going to do the trick so I'm thinking about throwing it in the washer on the gentle cycle.  Has anyone does this?  How does the bear come out?  I don't want to ruin it -but do need it clean.....

thanks for your input!

  • I have a front loader and I've washed all kinds of stuffed animals in it. If you have a top loader, you might just wash it in the sink and throw it in for the spin only cycle.

  • I haven't, but my mom has (she kept all of ours from when we were kids and washed them for DD).  Just put them on gentle.

Yes I have a front loader too.  This is the second time  I've washed theirs.
  • I have a front loader and have washed stuffed animals from when DS was sick. I used the gentel cycel and added an extra spin. For drying it I did extra low and then just air dry. It came out fine.

  • When I was little mom used to put my dolls in the wash inside of pillow case.  She said it was a safer ride.  Now with DD I put her bear in a pillowcase to wash and we have a front loader.  Her bear still feels like a brand new bear when it comes out the wash (we got a new one as backup thats how I can tell) granted the bear will never be as white again:-P

Edit: I put it on the dry rack for drying.

  • All of my son's stuffed animals have been tossed in the washing machine at various times!  I just do it with his regular clothes.  Some of them I also toss in the dryer, but others I hand-fluff and air-dry.
