I had never heard of this before, but my midwife told me today that if my husband is RH positive I have to get a shot or next time I get PG that my body will start attacking the baby. Anyone else have this issue?
i've had 2 rhogham (sp?) shots so far. once right after my m/c and another about 3 weeks ago after i fell in the shower. if my DH is positive and the baby is positive, and our bloods mix my body could begin creating antibodies to fight that blood type. the shot prevents that from happening. the reason i had it twice is because there was a potential of our bloods mixing (one from the m/c and the 2nd from my fall potentially rupturing something). soooo, to be on the safe side they will probably give me one more right before i deliver as they are only good for about 12 weeks. no harm caused to me or the baby, it's just a precaution for future pregnancy.....hope this helps!
I'm O-negative and will need the shot. My mom is A-negative and got it after I was born... even though I was neg, too. While being negative is rarer than being positive (for blood type), this is pretty common in pregnancy.
I am RH negative and my husband in RH positive so I had to get a shot at about 7 weeks then another one at 28 weeks and another right after the baby is born. If your husband is RH positive you will have to get the shots if he is RH negative you will have no issues at all.
When my Mom had my sister (9 years before me) they didn't have these shots available and when she was born she nearly died. She had to have a complete blood transfusion. Then, when my Mom got pregnant with me, her Doctor recommended she abort the pregnancy because there was a chance that either of us could die. SOOO glad she didn't take his advice!
next question- can my husband go to like urgent care and get his blood tested? Or where should he go? Again, he has no DR because I don't think he has ever been sick and apparently his mother doesn't know his blood type..which i find very strange... parents should know these thigns
interesting.... I am B negative.... waiting to find out what DH is because we are young and healthy so we have no idea...lol
Being that you are negative, you will probably end up getting Rhogam, it's a shot to prevent you from making antibodies against the Rh factor (that may be in) you baby's blood. It's really nothing to worry about, the doc's just plan ahead, you will likely get a shot before delivery and one after as well.
I am. They told me that I would need a shot at 20 or so weeks (forgive me I can't remember the exact time frame) and any time I spotted. It's not a big deal, just a shot that needs to go in your bumm
I'm RH negative and when I had an amnio last week I had to get some kind of shot right after. I still don't understand it but the shot actually hurt worse than the amnio.
Yes. If you have a negative blood type, and the baby's father has a positive blood type, you are (or could be) Rh incompatible with the baby, which could cause your body to attack the baby if your blood gets mixed.?
You should be given a shot during this pregnancy as well, at least I know I'm getting one and I've never been pregnant before and don't plan to get pregnant again. ?

I was told I'll get the shot around 28 weeks.

I found out with my first pregnancy that i am RH negative so they blood typed my FI and found out he was too....so we don't have to worry about shots!
