Solid Cherry Crib?????

My SIL is giving us a crib, what she describes as solid cherry.  I had something else in my mind  and was going to paint it white.(the dresser is a light wood laminate wood top type thing)

Now I'm trying to picture what it will look like, b/c I had all white furniture in my head- and had already painted a dresser.

From what I know, cherry is usually dark- what do you think it will look like??

Re: Solid Cherry Crib?????

  • cherry stain can vary from medium red to a dark, dark red. i personally wouln't ruin a perfectly good crib. it's ok to have mixed furniture.

Oh no. I'm not going to paint the cherry crib!  I just thought if it was a cheaper wood that I would paint it.... I'm just trying to get an idea of what it might look like.

  • Me and my hubby's bedroom furniture, and our nursery furniture is all cherry wood. Ours is the darker stain, and I think it's lovely. It seems that the darker stains for cherry wood are the more popular ones, at least around here.

But to get an idea of what it looks like just go to any site that sells cribs and look for a cherry wood crib. I think you'll like it, cherry wood looks very classy, if it's kept in good condition.

  • Speaking as a woodworker, I would say that if this crib is indeed solid real cherry wood, then you would never want to paint it. Real cherry is rare, a beautiful reddish colour that can vary from lights to dark, and is a fairly heavy wood.

However, if this crib is made in a cheaper wood with a cherry stain, then I wouldn't have a problem painting it white. You would have to take a closer look at this piece to see if it's real cherry, which is rarely stained as it's natural red colour is beautiful and deep, and a stained piece.

     Hope this helps you out.
