Obgyn Appt for Fertility Consulting

So I went back to my Obgyn to see about my fertility options.  My Obgyn walks in, and she is pregnant.  I was really thinking "not you"--why is this so easy for everyone else. 

Anyway, she is going to have me do bloodwork at the beginning of my next cycle, and she is wanting me to use OPK for the next 3 months.  She said that once you get the two lines, that it is not that day that you should TTC but the next day that you should TTC.

 As well, she is wanting my husband to get a semen analysis.  She said that 1/3 of all fertility problems are due to the sperm. 

And I asked about IUI, she said that was only necessary if there is an issue with the sperm.

It does seem like everyone else is pregnant when you're trying, doesn't it? Good luck with the OPKs. I like the Clear Blue Easy digitals. I could read the smiley face so much better than I could decide if the lines were dark enough. My first month using them I pretty much wrote off, since I really wasn't sure if it was a +OPK. This month I dropped the ball, and should have had lots of sex for many days after getting the +OPK. Do you chart or belong to Fertility Friend? Both of those things have really helped me in addition to the OPKs. Good luck!

I have charted since April 2008.  Fertility Friend is not my friend lately.  It was indecisive last cycle on when I O'd.  I feel like my tongue is going to fall out if I temp one more day, but I still temp. 

The crazy thing with the OPK is that when I first used them--like there was no second line.  I was trying to match the box thinking that the second line would be lighter.  And I skipped a day or so.  I got half of two lines on Wednesday.  But then my OBGYN told me to do it every day because the lines may get darker.  I will try again tomorrow.  I only have two more tests left for this cycle.  I normally do not like tests that have lines, but the OPK tests with lines at Walmart are cheaper.

Yes, it seems like everyone is pregnant once you start trying! I don't mean to disagree with your obgyn, because I am sure she knows a lot more than me, but I would start having sex as soon as you get a positive OPK.  I usually ovulate the day after I get the OPK, but I have also ovulated the same day.  So, I would recommend having sex every day from the time you see the OPK until you see your temp rise.  Just my $.02 for what it is worth.

Keep in mind that the ObGyn has all the medical advancements immediately at her disposal.  The good news is, she must know what she is talking about!!

I never got a + with 3 months using an OPK.  I had to go to the CBEFM.  It has been pretty much spot on for 4 or so months I have been using it.  I know they are expensive, but you can sometimes find a good deal online.  Or you can possibly buy or borrow a used one (not as gross as it sounds!) and use the reset function to erase the previous data.

I wish you luck with the OPKs.  I used the CBE ones just because it was easier to read a smiley than guess on lines.  Also, as to your OBs comment about the IUI.  My husbands sperm was fine it was me that had the issue and we got pg with my first IUI, so it's not necessarily just a sperm issue that requires an IUI.  If you see an RE they are better able to determine what is appropriate based upon all your test results.

Well, on the positive side, at least your OB knows what she's talking about when it comes to getting pregnant!
