Stride Rite

Are they worth the money? ?Is my child not walking because she wears Target shoes?

Re: Stride Rite

  • I'm quite confident that your child not choosing to walk yet has nothing to do with Target shoes :)  Set your mind at ease there!!!

We are big fans of Stride Rite as first shoes, but its really just a personal preference.  There are lots of other good brands out there too and Target mfg's theirs to mimic other brands.   The other thing thats super important to us is having the shoes fitted by someone who knows what they're doing.  They understand widths and the right amount of space needed at their toes, etc.

Are they worth it?  To us - yes.  But everyone is different :)

  • Totally worth it to me.  Like Brandi said...having a good fit is very important.
  • If it's any consolation, Benjamin isn't walking yet either and is now just starting to stand on his own a little bit at a time.  Once he starts walking, we'll probably get him a pair of Stride Rites as his first pair of "real" shoes but from what I also heard and read, it's better to let them start walking in bare feet so they can feel themselves gripping the ground.  Also, if you haven't already, sign up on the Stride Rite website.  They'll send you info on when sales are and sometimes they'll send coupons too.
  • We are a a big fan. Not sure though if Evie not walking is because of Target shoes :) For some reason, William keeps kicking his foot when we got him a cheaper shoes. We found another shoes that he likes a lot. He wears an adidas tennis shoes to school and he loves it. Still expensive though. Try looking for some coupon for Stride Rite to lower the price.

  • Thanks. ? ?I didn't get her SR yet because I let her got barefoot at home for the same reason Traci said. ? ?When we go out, her shoes are really just?accessories?since she doesn't walk. ? But I am going to go get her fitted. ?I put her in size 3 Target shoes because that is what fits her when we go to the store. ? Size 4 falls right off her foot. ?

?She is starting to stand. ? She can stand there for like 30 seconds and then slowly lower herself to the floor. ? She is a really good walker with her walking toys, holding our hands, etc. ?She has great balance and is really quick. ? But she doesn't have the confidence yet to go it on her own.?

  • ditto MrsBG and Kerrin.  But, we didn't get him any until he started walking.  He learned to walk in the summer, so he just went barefoot or wore Pedipeds.
  • I've always heard the best way for a child to learn to walk is barefoot.  Because their little piggies can grip on to the floor.  Also I am convinced that babies that walk early oftentimes spend a lot of times around other kids that are older and walking - watching them helps them learn.  Just my two cents. :)
  • I have Cadence in Target brand shoes too, but did take her to Stride Rite to be measured last week. She has worn size 3 for a while now and the size 4 fall off her too. She still measured at a 3- 3.5, but the sales lady said to buy new shoes in a 4. She was very nice and must get people bringing thier kids in there all the time to be measured without buying anything because she was not pushy at all.

I will probably get a pair of SR's when C starts walking, but it is good to know I have her in the correct size for now.

  • I've always been big on shoes...both of my boys were wearing them from early on. When Grant started crawling we got him some Stride Rite pre-walkers and when he started walking we got him the next level of Stride Rite. Once he was a good walker I started buying him other brands of shoes...not just SR. When buying the SR I always go to the outlet store and I've never paid more than $25 for his SR shoes.

  • Right now, Kate only has and wears only stride rites, but I only got them once she started walking around 10.5 months.

I bought 2 pairs in the store, and the rest I've bougt NIB off ebay for about $13!!!

She has about 8 pairs because I got ebay happy one day.

  • Don't worry too much about the walking....SC didn't walk til xmas eve and her birthday is early november.  For her first shoes I did go have her fitted and just went to striderite as it was convenient.  She has a wide foot so they were able to fit her better than me...and it seems like we are always buying 1/2 sizes which they don't have at target.

I got her her first walkers after she started walking and I just got a pair on sale...I sure loved those shoes!  Since I have had an "incident" at a store where they wouldn't give me a price adjustment on a pair of shoes that went on sale after I bought them....2 days after I bought them, I went back to store.  It ticked me off as the sales person looked at me like I was an idiot for expecting her to adjust the price.....umm, most other stores I know will do it!  Anyhoo, I think its worth it to at least go and get her measured.

We love Target shoes--the Circo brand is one of my faves! I specifically asked our pedi about shoes, etc., and he said not to spend $$$ on shoes ... unless you want to (for aesthetics, personal preference, etc.).

  • Doodle was walking around 11 months.  She only ever owned 1 pair of stride rite shoes,AFTER she started walking.  I've bought target, payless, walmart, gymboree...you name it.  it was hard for me to spend more  $ on her shoes than i do on mine.  Also, did you know that payless and striderite are owned by the same co? they have a brand called like smart ride which is their "high end" shoe!
  • I really like the stride Rite shoes. I like the quality of the shoes compared to others. I highly recommend going to the outlet. I have gotten great deals there and the shoes are around $22 or less - much cheaper than the regular store. The outlet also has a great selection of shoes.
