Goodbye health insurance!

So my dh works for his dad.  They have a family owned business that has been in existence for about 30 years.  One of their accounts reduced their hours per week causing my FIL to lay off an employee and he has to do away with the health plan.

So we just found out last night that we have until April 1st to get our own policy.  My job has some options I guess but I'm a temp so they won't be great.  They are mailing me an info package today.

It could be MUCH worse.  We are so thankful that he still has a job but we're panicking about losing our insurance and not being able to afford an independent policy.  Plus, I just have this ominous cloud hanging over my head...I have a feeling this isn't the end of it.

  • That would be very scary. I don't have any advice, but good luck!

  • That stinks.  I wish I knew what to say.  ((HUGS)) and hopefully your options are not as bleak as you think.

  • since you're exploring options, look into a health savings account (hsa) too.  depending on your needs it may be a better option for you guys.
  • I am sorry, does your state have a high income health insurance plan for the kids.  I know AL has "all kids" and Texas has "Chips."  That might be an option for the kiddos.   I HATE health insurance in the US.  MH is also self employed and my companies is crappy (& expensive) coverage.
