Jolly Jumper question

We received one for my baby shower, the kind that hangs from the door frame. I can set it up in the alkway between our kitchen and living room, which is perfect b/c I can see it from anywhere on the first floor. On the box it says 3+ months, but I'm wondering if anyone used it earlier or later than recoended and why.

I just don't know how to tell if her body is ready yet. When I hold her she pushes herself up on her legs is pretty steady. She also has pretty good head/neck control but gets droppy after a couple of minutes.

What do you think?

TIA

Re: Jolly Jumper question

  • If she is droopy after a few minutes she isn't ready.  DS wasn't ready for his til about 4.5 months.  He just looked really uncomfortable in it and he didn't like being in it before then.  We would try every few weeks until he was ready.

  • We didn't start DS in his until about 6 months.  There has been a lot of controversay over the years about the safety of jolly jumpers( in regards to damaging the spine, etc) so we just wanted to make sure that he was strong enought to support his weight before we started.

  • You also shouldn't leave your DC in the jumper for more than 15 mins a day.

  • I put Gwen in it for the first time around 3 1/2 or 4 months. Wanted to make sure her head and neck were strong enough so if your little ones' head gets droopy after only a few minutes I would wait a bit longer.

  • I put her in it on Thursday - the day she turned 3 months

She's really super strong, though. Held her head up very steadily since she was born, and when we go to salsa babies, her head stays straight up the whole time, and I'm bouncing around for an hour.

Seeing that she's only in the JJ for 15 minutes tops, I figured she was ready. Go with your gut. If she gets droopy after a few minutes, I'd wait until she gains better neck control

  • DD went in around 4 months - she had really good head control
