before you go on a driving vacation do you put together an itinuary

    I cant imagine what kind of info would go in an itinerary for a road trip or why you would need one.

    I always get the AAA trip tik with directions and stops and have everything planned out

    We usually get a bag of m & ms and some combos. Stick out tongue And stop for Chick Fil A.

    Seriously? An itinerary? Info packet? For a family road trip?

    Yes.

    DH would forget that the rest of us can't pee in a bottle if I didn't!

    I usually put in :

    Hotel info

    Check point info

    Rest stop info

    we stop every 2 hours for play/pee/food leg stretch!

    We do the AAA trip tik - when we went to AZ, I found that the online one you can do yourself is different from the one you can order online and pick up (as far as what info they show, etc.). I would do both of them so that you can see all the options available to you. I also make sure to have researched hotels in the areas that we think that we might be stopping. I don't want to be stuck in a rat trap hotel because it is the only thing available. If I know where we're planning to stay, I'll even google coupons for restaurants in that area for dinner.     OMG this made me LOL.  I am not the itinerary type of person at all, but my dad always give me a typed itinerary of where he will be when he goes on vacation.  They usually do these little road trips where they spend two days in place A, then 2 days in Place B, etc.  So he charts it all out for me and I usually misplace it two days into his trip.

    DH and I are more like Sulla - we throw some stuff in the car and go...
