Kaili pronounciation?

Would you pronounce Kaili as Kay-lee or as Kiley when you first see it?

Re: Kaili pronounciation?

  • I first read it as Callie. After reading your post, I would pronounce it Kiley.

  • Kylie, like Kylie Minogue.

What is with all the I's ?  It is hard to read on top of looking like it is a made up stripper name.

haha, I loved my friend's brother's name Kai, but I really wanted something for a girl. I didn't want Kylie, Kiley or other spellings, I guess I could spell it Kailee. I never thought of it as a made up stripper name though, but it puts a new view on it! Thanks!

  • I was just told that it is a popular Hawaiian name.  Still think it has too many I's in it. :)

    ?
    Kay-lee.?

It is confusing to me. ?And it does look Hawaiian.?
  • Yes, this is a common Hawaiian name, it is pronounced Kah-ee-lee with three syllables...

Is that what you're going for???

Yes, this.  But when I first saw it I actually thought I read "Kalil".  I think it would be a difficult name for most anyone to get right, which isn't much fun for anyone (pardon the rhyme).

  • I read it first as Callie as well. ?But of your 2 I would say Kay-lee

Please.  Don't.  Unless you are in fact Hawaiin, don't do this to the kid.

  • It looks like Ky-lee to me.
  • Ky-lee and I don't mind it.

Kailey, Kaileigh, Kailee, Kailie are all possible spellings.

I think most people will say "Callie" or "Kay-lee" though, simply because those names are more common and it does look like how it should be pronounced.

FWIW I prefer the Hawaiian pronunciation only if you are Hawaiian.

Ha!  Exactly what I was thinking!  Like bait, gait, rain, pain, etc.......  Kaili = "Kay-lee"

  • Hhmm, that's tough, it could go either way. I'd probably say Kay-lee at first glance  but understand that Kai is pronounced Ki like sky... it's kind of a confusing spelling.

  • I'm from Hawaii and was raised here and have never seen this name.  Kai, yes, Kaimi, yes, Kaili, no.

I have absolutely no clue how it's pronounced.

  • At first glance I thought it was Kalil too. After reading the post, I would pronounce it Kay-Lee
