Pancakes without eggs

I have seen this posted a long time ago, but I wasn't worried about it then:o)

What happens if I just skip the egg when making pancakes?  Will they not rise?  Is there pancake batter that doesn't require eggs?

Re: Pancakes without eggs

  • Why not just use eggs?  In the information from the pedi a scrambled egg or baby omelet (one egg no filling) are ideal first finger foods.  They just can't have raw eggs.

  • Look for 'complete' on the box.  Most of these only require water.  I think we used hungry jack complete.

  • What? Just not raw eggs? First off who feeds their infant a raw egg. Secondly aren't you suppose to wait until 12 months before giving egg yolks/or whites I forget which one.

Yes their is a pancake mix that only needs water it is called Pioneer Mills or something like that. We use it and they make fluffy pancakes and DD loves them.

  • That is what I thought!  eww.. I don't eat raw eggs anyways.  I know it was with some 9 month baby stuff I received. I also think some stuff from Pampers in the mail mentioned it.

  • My pedi said no eggs at all--no whites or yolks--until 12 months.

  • Yes, typically it's no eggs until a year.
  • If you make them yourself you can add in a little extra baking powder and you should be fine.  A little vinegar and baking soda will also help to get the lift w/o the eggs.  My friend uses flax seed for hers.  She's pretty darn close to a Vegan so no eggs for her at all.
  • Thanks!  I will try the extra baking powder first, hippy:o)

What a great idea, Hippy! Aren't the "complete" sets already made with eggs....

Yep, I just checked my box. Under ingredients it lists near the bottom: egg yolks, egg whites. And it says at the very bottom "Contains: wheat, milk, and eggs"

  • After this post I was totally craving pancakes.  We had the Aunt Jenimima (SP?) Complete and it said "dried whole eggs"  they sure did taste good!
