Copper IUD removal

Hi.

Anyone here have a Paraguard (copper) IUD removed?  What were your experiences?

I plan on getting my IUD removed in July so I can start trying to conceive in August.  I think i remember my doc saying to have it removed near the end of my period so it is easier and less painful.  Does having it removed affect my period in anyway?  Assuming I always have a 28 day cycle should I expect any difference due to the removal?  Will it make me have a period sooner or will i just bleed from the removal (though not my period)?  I forgot to ask that because if so i may get it out a month earlier because i don't want it to possibly take away one month of possibly conceiving.

Thank you so much!!

I've never had an IUD but in terms of you not wanting to wait too long to start conceiving after it's removal, I'm pretty sure IUD's release hormones into your system which prevents pregnancy- similar to mostly all forms of birth control.

Usually those hormones take about 6 months to leave your system completely but you could always get pregnant sooner. ?It jsut depends on your body.

  • I have the Paraguard/Copper IUD that does not have any hormones. The one that releases hormones is the Minera.

  • I got pg the second cycle off BCP.
  • Oh okay. ?I have no idea then. Sorry
  • The copper one doesn't have any hormones in it.

Mine was starting to expel on it's own so the doctor pulled it out when I went in for my pap and he noticed the bottom poking out.  I'd give yourself some time to heal after having it removed.  It scraped and burned coming out and I had some bleeding too.

It didn't effect my periods at all.

  • The paragard iud doesn't have any hormones (just the mirena one does).  I bled a little after I had mine removed and also had minor cramping- nothing an advil couldn't take care of.  Since there are no hormones you can get pg the second that thing is taken out.  Or in my case a week later.

    Good luck!

I don't think I need to explain myself again about that. ?For someone who loves to bring up the past, you really should get your facts straight.?

  • I was there. I watched it happen. I'm pretty sure I remember it correctly.

Well then you missed some important parts because you're wrong.

I'm not getting into this again- end of story.?

Wait- I never caught the first explanation.  Please share.

  • And honestly, you should start getting used to this now. Because you will NEVER EVER live that one down.

  • OP, I had my Paragard removed on Dec. 3rd.  It was the last day of my period.  Believe me, just schedule it for some time during your period and it'll be the easiest thing.

Insertion sucked beyond belief, but I thought my doc was kidding when he said he was done with the removal.

Oh, and since I ovulated somewhere in the neighborhood of 2 weeks later...yeah, pg didn't take long.

    Ever.

FFS, it was linked to by BLOGGERS and non-pregnancy sites. ?You don't think it was all bumpies that got it to 35K views and brought enough traffic to affect the whole site, right?

I was like the beauty contestant interview that was all over youtube.com last year.

    This. Exaclty.

  • I have had two IUD's removed.  The first one because I was TTC.  They took it out during a cycle.  I am not going to lie, it hurt, but it was quick.  I spotted for a day and then got pg within 6 mos.  The second one was removed because I found out that I was pregnant.  Apparently those suckers can move over just enough to allow an embryo to implant.  Who knew?  Whatever.  I am totally thrilled to have another baby.  Yay Me!
