I am going on a 3 hour direct flight I will be traveling alone with my 1 year old, he will be sitting on my lap. Any suggestions to keep him occupied? or any flying suggestions?
I just did MA to FL (and back) w/DD....I bought some little toys before the trip but didn't give them to her until the plane ride...that way they were new/entertaining. I packed premade formula so I didn't have to worry about mixing. Puffs also kept her happy. She slept for about 1.5 hrs each flight which was nice. At take off and landing I made sure she had her paci. She did excellent on the flights and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
Also, we used an umbrella stroller instead of her regular stroller...was just easier.
I traveled with DD when she was about 4 months old by myself. Same flight time - it was from Philadelphia to West Palm. I know that DD was only four months old and so she did sleep for most of the trip but getting on and off the plane I had some pointers. First - check with your flight attendants to see if there is a changing station in any of the bathrooms. It was nice to know that Southwest has one in the forward bathroom. At security I put DD in the baby bjorn to go through because they have to put the stroller through the x-ray along with bags and when you are trying to juggle everything you will need your hands to be free at security - nobody can hold the child for you! Thankfully the TSA officers were so sweet and patient with me. Good luck!!
