I posted thsi on the multiples board as well:
Anyone have sensory issues with their twins/preemie? Sumner's worse than Jack, but he really hates to do art involving paint, glue, touch playdoh, etc.
The OT plans to up their therapy, but I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions of things they have done that has worked well for them.
In the past he has had issues with water and food that we have worked through. It primarily manifests itself in art now. It seems to "flare" as well. Sometimes it isn't as bad, sometimes worse.
Thanks!
Re: XP: Sensory Issues?
I don't know if this helps, but I actually have Tactile Sensory Disorder. I was diagnosed as a child, along with ADD. (It can be a stand alone issue, but it is sometimes is accompanied by other conditions on the same scale - ADD, ADHD, OCD, Tourette's, etc....) As a kid, I HATED having my hair brushed, walking barefoot, wearing hats, gloves, ANY clothes with rough surfaces - jeans for example - I only wanted to wear sweats! - clothes with tags, the feeling of the shower, etc. Obviously, as I grew older I learned to compensate. I do walk barefoot, shower, wear jeans, etc. It still makes me a little uncomfortable, but to fit into society, aka...high school, you do what you gotta do!
I'd mention it to the pedi. He / she might have suggestions on ways to introduce new sensations through play. Let us know - GL!
PS. I'd also post this on SN - they might have some advice too!
