xp: 3 month old leg strength question

Cecily kicks her feet around with seemingly no problem, but is not able to bear any weight on her legs, she just collapses.  I seem to remember my other two being able to stand upright and bounce a bit.  (Like if I was holding them in my lap, facing out and their feet were on the tops of my legs) Do you remember what is normal? I'm trying not to get worried yet.

Re: xp: 3 month old leg strength question

  • mine could bear weight and bounce-- but the pedi said not all babies can
  • Just wanted to say hi! :)

Isn't it sad that I really can't remember when C could bear weight on her legs- I can't even remember when they have enough head control to hold up and bounce like that! I guess I will soon see...again! LOL

I am sure she is fine, but maybe if shes not able to do it is a week or two, call your pedi just to see what you should be looking for. GL!

My daughter can bear weight and will 'walk' towards us (supported, obviously).  I don't think my son could do that at all.  I think it must depend on the baby.

  • The standing vs not is all a reflex. The reflex is to not stand, but then as they get older it fades, therefore allowing standing. Its nothing you can control or change, she'll grow out of it when she's ready. And not all kids go through the reflexes at the same time.

    Hope that helps.

  • DD was standing with me just holding her hand at her 3 month appt.  DS would not stand at all until about 6 1/2 months old.  At his 6 month appt the pedi was fine with it but said we would reevaluate the situation if he wasn't standing at 9 months.  Each baby is so different.
