Huggies vs. Pampers

We've been using Pampers.  We like them, but DS does continue to have blow-outs in them (and he's in plenty big diapers, trust me!).  People say to try other brands, but in a post below, many people say that hate Huggies and seemed to have more blow out issues w/ Huggies than w/ Pampers.

So- what's your experience?  Especially if you've tried both.  Which did you like better?

Re: Huggies vs. Pampers

  • I hate Huggies.  We've gone through 80 Huggies with tons of leaks/blowouts and about 60 Pampers with 1 or 2 leaks.  I won't buy Huggies again although my DD is in size 1 which are sort of big on her but she never fit in NB.  I feel like the Huggies were too big around the legs and I couldn't get them tight enough.

  • Pampers hands down.  I've used Huggies twice and both times she leaked through and the diaper didn't absorb the urine, so her butt was soaking wet.  If I continued to put her in those, I guarantee she would've had diaper rash at some point.  Pampers always keep her dry.  She wears them overnight and hasn't leaked once.  The diaper must weigh about 2 lbs. in the morning.  Her skin is always dry.  No diaper rash thus far (knock on wood).

She's had a few blowouts, but one time was when I gave her too much colic calm and her entire system was cleared out - I don't think any diaper would've held that mess.  The other times were b/c her diaper was too small. She hasn't had any "up the back" poops since I went with a size 2.

  • We've tried both - in the newborn and 1 sizes. We liked both of them, really. I mean, we've never really had a problem with either. We use Huggies at the moment b/c we got one of those big 264 diaper boxes from the shower...but when that runs out (which is coming shortly lol) we will go buy either Pampers or Huggies...so, I guess I'm not that much use in this post. lol
  • I tried both, and like Huggies Supreme way better.  I had tons of blowouts with pampers, and they left these little gel balls on her skin (gross!).  We didn't really like Huggies regular, but really like the Huggies Supreme.  We have very few blowouts with those, maybe because they fit around her legs really well.

  • I honestly like Pampers better and noticed that the blow-outs went through my DD clothes more with the Huggies than with the Pampers, as with the pampers, it usually doesnt get on her clothes because it doesnt seep out the legs nor up the back like I noticed with the Huggies.

On a side note-  My cousin has a boy and I have a girl.  Not sure if this is the case with everyone, but she liked Huggies better and I like Pampers better..HTH!

  • I'll use either...  we have had more blowout issues with Pampers than with Huggies though.  The Huggies are a little more snug around the leg openings and I guess that's why they work better for us.

It can't hurt to go get a small pack to try them out.  Good luck!

  • I really like Huggies. DD is a smaller baby and we have had no leaks or blowouts. With Pampers it seemed like the outside of the diaper felt wet right after she wet it, and they don't fit her well. We are happy with Huggies, it depends on your baby I guess.

  • We've never had a blow out with either, but I like Pampers better.  With the Huggies, I had pee run out of the diaper and down her back while I was lifting her bottom to get the clean diaper under her.  That did it for me - it was back to Pampers.

DH likes the Pampers better because he thinks the Huggies feel "cheap."  I think that's funny!

  • I've tried both and prefer huggies. They seem to hold more pee, which is great when DCs start sleeping through the night.

When I use pampers I tend to have lots of pee leaks even when they're not very full. I think they just don't fit DS's body as well or something.

So far, I've had no huggies pee leaks and only one "up the back" poo leak.

  • We've tried both too.  I like pampers a bit better than huggies due to their absorption rate.  Though Monkey Toes has overfilled BOTH brands at night, overall the pampers keeps her tucckus drier during the day.

As for blow outs - both were with Pampers.

However, I buy the small bags of huggies when I have coupons.  I will keep doing so until I see a problem with her heiney.

  • I use both. Whenever there is a special on Pampers value boxes at Toys R Us, I get those.  Huggies gives out coupons all the time though, and Pampers never does, so I buy those more.  I like them all pretty equally, though at this stage I do have the slightest preference for the Pampers Cruisers.  When he was smaller I actually liked the Huggies stop leak best.

  • We have used Pampers, Huggies and Luvs and have had no problem with any of them.  The only time we have leaks or blowouts is when it is time to move up a size (which I usually do before he reached the weight limit recommendation).  I prefer Pampers.  I think they are softer, but it makes not difference to DS.
  • I was just jinxed with a blow out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • For us  huggies leak, pampers don't.
  • We've only tried the Huggies Supremes once (1 box) and hated them. Almost every diaper leaked or had a blowout. It was crazy. We have never had a leaky wet diaper with Pampers Swaddlers... but we have had a few blowouts. I honestly think that it really depends on your baby's shape. Some baby's fit better in one brand or the other.
