It has been a top name for a while now. If that matters to you, you may want to check your state b/c it is more popular in some areas than others. I think babynamewizard.com has a search tool by state.
I think the Emma trend was sparked by Rachel naming her daughter Emma on Friends several years back. There was a huge influx of girls named Emma and it skyrocketed to the most common names list all over the world.
It is still popular, but I haven't seen it as often lately. If you name your daughter Emma she will probably know a lot of girls a few grades older than her with the same name.

While its a popular name, its a classic name to me. I think Emma Claire is beautiful. If my niece wasnt Emily, Emma would be one of my top name choices!?
I do think Emma is way over used right now. I know 2 Emmas under the age of 2 right now. I think if you name a little girl that she will be surrounded by "Emmas" in her Kindergarden class. I've always loved Claire though.

I named my daughter Emma Calire because it was a family name. Although it has become popular it is also a classic name and not some made up uber trendy name which is another reason we chose that name.
I think it's beautiful. A friend's niece is Emma Claire (called by both as a double name). Emma is popular, but not trendy, as pp's said. I say go for it if it's a name you love, especially with the family connection.
If you used it as a double name, you'd avoid her being Emma [Last Initial] in school, if that's important to you.
Emma Claire is really beautiful. I love it. It's definitely very, very popular right now but if that doesn't bother you go for it. Personally, I don't want my child to be the 3rd or 4th person in her class with the same name, but that's just my opinion.?
Whenever I hear that yet ANOTHER person is naming their daughter Emma, it makes me glad that DH and I are using much more uncommon names. It's not a bad name, not at all. But I think it has been horribly over-used, and yes, I think the Friends episode is to blame.
This is one of my top names. Claire is a family name and I just love Emma. I haven't met any IRL. According to SSA/census numbers, even though it is "so popular and overused", it only accounts for .84% of all girls born nationally. The combination is short enough she can use both names instead of being Emma last initial. Use what you love. Its one of the popular names that is classic and will age well unlike a lot of the others.
We were going to name our girl Emma Grace or Emma Claire. But I've actually seen both those combos a few times now on here and on other websites. We probably would have gone with Emma Grace, but my sister just had a baby 2 weeks ago and named her exacly that! - Emma Grace! I do think Emma is getting pretty over-used. The one thing I was worried about when we had the name in mind was that i didnt want my daughter to be an "Emma T." in school because of the other Emmas that might be in her class. GL - Claire is super cute for a first name.., Claire Emma?
We are naming our girl Emma Grace.... Its not real popular where we are but even it it was my DH wouldnt care. Emma is a family name and Grace is something that I always wanted to have as a middle name.
